Sports Legal Panel set up to assist sport

UK Sport, Sport England, Sport Wales and the Sport and Recreation Alliance (SRA) launched a Legal Panel Framework of 10 law firms on 3 April, designed to provide sport with access to quality law firms at fair rates.

The ten firms were chosen from 76 who submitted applications by 20 October 2011 and will advise the 300 sporting bodies represented by UK Sport, Sport England, Sport Wales and the SRA for three years, with the option of a fourth.

The firms chosen are: Bates Wells Braithwaite, Brabners Chaffe Street; Dolmans; Farrer & Co.; Gateley; Moorhead James; Muckle; Pinsent Masons; Thomas Eggar; and Wright Hassall. All have committed to fixed fees, discounted rates and other services. UK Sport advisor Vijay Parbat, Sport England Solicitor Erin Stephens and SRA Governance & Compliance Officer Joy Tottman created the initiative.

The panel will provide services across 19 areas of law including child protection, governance, data protection, athlete selection, EU sports policy, major events, employment law, administrative and public law, property, planning and construction, media law and more.
