Investing in German football - How long will the 50+1 rule sustain?

Following the Deutsche Fußball Liga’s (‘DFL’) move to consider changes to the 50+1 rule, which requires that in order for a club to obtain a licence to compete in the Bundesliga, the majority of voting rights within the club must be controlled by its parent member association, and the subsequent decision taken by the member clubs of the DFL in April not to abolish the 50+1 rule, Olga Hamama and Lukas Pfister of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer assess the 50+1 rule and whether amendment is likely.
