RegTech: Modernity’s effect on compliance - a gambling snapshot

In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, gambling operators are tasked with finding innovative ways of staying ahead of the curve. They must not only ensure that strategic growth objectives are attained, players retained, and compliance costs lowered; but, in so doing, are required to navigate a patchwork of heterogenous legal frameworks across the globe. While technology has, until relatively recently, been viewed as an additional layer of burden in achieving compliance, the ‘RegTech’ phenomenon has caused a shift in this perception. In this article, Dr Emma Grech and Dr Maria Mulvaney, Legal Consultants at eLudum, examine the manner in which technology has the power to change gambling compliance as we know it: a reality, however, that is not without its challenges.
