Online gambling in Belgium: a new wave of regulation

A new wave of draft rules further regulating games of chance and betting has recently hit Belgium, with a package of measures - consisting of a Bill and three draft Royal decrees - being approved on 13 October 2017 by the Belgian Council of Ministers; the measures include inter alia changes to the sanctioning powers of the Belgian Gaming Commission and strict new rules on gambling advertising. Here, Pieter Paepe of Astrea looks specifically at the Bill and one of the Royal decrees - that which regulates the procedures for operating online games of chance and bets - and provides commentary on each.
