India: Emerging data protection frameworks

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (‘TRAI’) recently released, on 9 August 2017, a consultation paper on ‘Privacy, Security and Ownership of the Data in the Telecom Sector’ (‘the Consultation Paper’). The aim of the Consultation Paper is to identify the key issues pertaining to data protection in relation to the delivery of digital services in India and to invite feedback from public stakeholders on the questions identified in the Consultation Paper.
