Cyber insecurity: The fragmented state of cyber regulation in Australia

Toby Patten, Partner, and Rowena Baer, Associate, at Baker McKenzie in this article explore Australia’s regulatory framework for cyber security, which, as a result of being comprised of a collection of legislation, standards and guidance documents from various Government agencies, is complex and, in the authors’ view, uncoordinated. Toby and Rowena review the components of the current approach and outline how changes this year to Australia’s security of critical infrastructure laws and to its data breach laws will impact this landscape.
