Cyber security in France: Why 2018 will be a “decisive” year

The French regulatory landscape has been developing rapidly in recent years, in particular through the setting up of specific cyber security regulations for critical national infrastructures. Recently the ANSSI (or ‘autorité nationale de la sécurité des systèmes d’information’), the French Cybersecurity Authority, said that 2018 is to be a “decisive” year for cyber security with the implementation of the NIS Directive and the European discussions about the new cyber security package that has been put forward by the European Commission. Lise Breteau, Partner at Osborne Clarke, looks at the ANSSI’s approach in leading France on cyber security matters, and at its reactions to the European cyber security package, adopted at EU level in September 2017.
